It looks like Microsoft, which has been hung up on using Microsoft points for Xbox LIVE, has finally agreed to let gamers buy content with the good all American dollar. This new announcement comes right on the heels of the new avatar system. This means instead of rolling out to the local Gap, and picking up a new shirt or one of those crazy scarf’s everyone’s loves to wear thanks to Adam Lambert, you can now whip out your credit card and buy your avatar a new scarf. Don’t get me wrong, on some guys they look great, but as for me I need my neck or else I remind myself of some alien from the outer rim.
Oh and by the way, you can also purchase games too, just to throw out the visa and have it start downloading instead of fumbling to purchase points.

Microsoft’s plans on launching the new program at the same time they launch “Games on Demand”. I believe you will be able to purchase full games with cash instead of points, details on this program are hard to find right now.
Along with being able to buy stuff with real money, Microsoft is also releasing a new avatar award system. The new award system will be set so you can reward your avatar for their in-game actions. You know from my own point of view I never really understood Microsoft’s point system, was our dollar system not good enough. Now with the option to use real money we don’t have to sit around and try to figure out the conversion rate of my Xbox LIVE pretend points money.

Sadly, it seems that last week when we reported on Microsoft finally deciding to ditch Microsoft Points and start letting people pay the dollar amount for games, we weren’t exactly correct.
Now, Microsoft is saying that just because we are going to see this form of payment for their new Games on Demand service, it doesn’t mean that this will be the standard for all of Xbox Live Marketplace.
“We’re happy to offer our community the convenience of using either Microsoft Points, direct debit or credit card when purchasing full Xbox 360 titles through Games on Demand,” said a Microsoft spokesperson in an e-mailed statement to G4’s Patrick Klepek. “Other content on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, such as Game Add-ons, movies and music videos, will continue to be sold with Microsoft Points and we have no further announcements at this time.”
*sigh*
Sad news considering we shouldn’t have been forced to deal with Microsoft Points in the first place. All we can hope is that one day Microsoft will come to their senses and quit forcing us to purchase 1000 Microsoft Points in order to get an 800 point game.
