Theres been a bit of talk lately about an open wheel season...
I'm down for some Formula Masters...Run it like a GP2 weekend...Sprint race and an endurance race...
Say 25-30 mile sprints (6-8 laps) and 70 mile endurance?...NO street courses!...Same points structure as F1 with an exception of 8th place...If we get good interest we'll pay points for the SAME PERCENTAGE of the field, think its like top 40% get points?...NO SHOW equals NO POINTS!...I suppose we can keep the Semi-Pro cause it does make some good racing...Plus I don't want to alienate anyone who may use some assists that would be interested in this season...
We will make the race 1 lap longer than the scheduled length for a Formation lap...Why you ask?...Because there will be NO SINGLE LAP QUALI!...We will run a TRUE F1 style knockout!!!...Excited yet?...I am...20 min, 15 min, 10 min...Those who do not advance will simply watch Q2 or Q3 on the race monitor...This way the people NOT in the ACTIVE quali session can watch the TIME and GOVERN who is granted an extra flying lap via the race monitor...
We'll roll out for the formation lap and the HOST will record (manually, as in paper and pen) the Q1/2/3 times...Obviosly on the FORMATION lap we'll get in the respective qulai slots and grip up...Once we're on the grid the LAST racer will check in and the LAST racer will call the time on the top left to start at...This can AND WILL be done HONESTLY thanks to the replay...If someone protests a jumped start on another racer the ENTIRE room will watch the replay and VOTE to a 3rd party what the outcome is...We can also vote on the penalty but that is something we can all talk about...
For starters lets just see what the interest level would be in a formation like this...Any ideas on the race weekend, quali session, rules or ANYTHING this is the place to voice your opinion...
I would be more than willing to head up this season if thats all right with Mile and Eddy?...
Come on guys, lets hear it!...Winter is coming and we need something to do...
BTW, I drive the #25 RED master... ;D

Well for a knockout quali i don't think many people would like that as if we actully did something like that and it'd take like a hour alone to qualify and i'm sure some would get fed up with that as most people hated when i use to have 30 min qualifying on forza2.
As for f1 points i think that would be a really bad idea because then only room one really is racing for anything as room 2 will be pointless and most people would probelly skip the race if they did'nt get points as they could do something eles with there time insted.Thats why i've always given points even if its 1 point for anyone who shows up.
Befor you try to start anything thought maybe wait alittle while or closer to the end as theres still races till the end of dec and people will probelly wanna do at least a 2 week break i'd think as seasons are long and its nice to have a off weak expesally with the holidays around that time.
But yea its no problem if you wanan run something just try to give us a heads up first so we can have a idea(at least me not sure if eddy needs one)
Also i should be back full time in jan so i will probelly run something on racepro as i've wanted to for months now.I just have'nt had the time with work/money to get a headset etc

I'd like to be firm on the knockout cause I'd personally like to watch others duke it out in the final minutes...I DO see and FULLY understand what you're pointing at Mile... The only reason I mention F1 points structure is cause I didn't really anticipate more than 6 teams joining...Lots of people are b!tching about RP now that F3 is out...Of course, the more the merrier and thats something we can discuss when some more people show interest...Once we have grid/team entries/interest we can determine the points strucutre based on the number of entrants AND a vote of people's ideas on points paying positions... I decided to make this post NOW to send out the feelers...We have got PLENTY of time to get things sorted...Time to vote on the whole weekend structure...We've got what like 6 races left in the GT series...NOTHING good or fun is developed OVERNIGHT...PLUS, I want EVERYONE invloved in the planning so theres none of that "BS" going on during the race... I vote for knockout Quali. to take place a day before the race just like in real life...Now, there would be no "lock" or "park" on the cars and what to do about that can be decided...I don't and wouldn't mind if people tweeked on there cars before the race...I also vote for a MANDITORY timed practice session before the race to check for lag and to get warmed up... I'd like to do it as CLOSE to REAL as POSSIBLE...Stew on your quali time overnight...Think about what you can adjust or if you want to take that gamble... OR how about this for quali; Superpole style...We'll do it in "free practice" before the race...This way we all get to watch each other qualify just like F1 used to do...We can watch on the race monitor...I think that would be a LOT of fun for everyone...The PRESSURE would be amazing!... You MUST get in on this series!...I'm doing a ton of projects at the moment as well...Got my SBF Volvo wagon and 2 Mustangs I'm doing body and paint on...You can find the time and a headset, I know you can...

I'm always up for any Race Pro season, RP's new motto; "The racing is just better here"

I'm always up for any Race Pro season, RP's new motto; "The racing is just better here" What do you think about the setup for the weekend?...Would you sit thru almost an hour of knockout quali or would you rather have to do a flying lap while everyone watched from the pits?...Are you good with a formation lap and lining ourselves up for the start?... Wanna make it a weekend "event" or would you rather tune on your own time and meet up for quali and the race similar to what we do now?...

Well its not about not liking that qualifying its just about the time spent doing it which is what i was hinting at as after every single heat you'd have to meet up with room 2 get all the times do round 2 then get all the times again and then do room 1 with the times yet again so theres a big delay with that alone which is what i was saying.
Thats the only thing i love about f1 is the knock out quli so i'd like to see it online but its hard to fit into peoples days.
as far as a 2 day show eddy did that with forza and most people don't show when its more then one day unless its a different series running or game.

K, so we'll stick to the single day "weekend"...Meaning we'll do a bit of practice before quali (nothing new from what we do now)...We'll do quali in Superpole style after the practice session, if you're cool with that idea and format?...
I figure we're all grown up enough to govern ourselves to STAY OFF THE TRACK during the quali session...This should be roughly a 30 minute session for each room (should there be enough entrants to seperate into two rooms)...Then we can do our formation lap (technically the first lap of the race) and grid up to take the start...
So we've scratched the knockout UNLESS all the entrants vote it back in...Which is yet to be determined since you, Brandit and I are the ONLY ONES TALKING about this series!...
Theres like 60 views and only 3 people talking...

Another idea I had was this: Run quali and GIVE points for the session...Then once quali is done we can INVERT the field...I'm a HUGE fan of inverted starting grids!...
Putting the slower guys at the front would not only force the faster guys to drive harder, which is were mistakes are made but it'll also open up the chance to level the ponits positions...
I think F1 style points paying with an inverted grid and BONUS points for quali positions would make for an interesting race wekend...
IDK, I might rambling on here...I'm gonna do some beta testing on this format and ANYONE who wants to join me just send me a message (here or XBL)...We can run thru the quali formats and figure mileage for the sprint and endurance races...
I'm anal...I ALWAYS have a pen and tablet next to me when racing...I'm open to changes on the fly during testing but I CANNOT do this alone...I need input, help or opinions...Hell, even if people just wanna YELL at me for trying to put this together thats fine...I'm a big boy I can take it...
Unless we get some input I guess I'm racing alone, which is NO FUN!...

That quali should work fine
Most people only check the site on sunday/monday to see the points otherwise they don't post/see stuff so that'd be why were just 3

See, with all the talk I thought there would be GOBS of interest...But the viewing times do make sence...Either you're right on the Sunday/Monday timeline or people REALLY don't wanna race with me?...

Im in for sure these cars are my favorite to drive, even though they are low on power they are suprisingly fast to have a 4 banger Acura engine.
THe set up sounds great Id love to watch everyone screw up there Quali lap b/c of the pressure lol. Inverted grids for the sprint would be welcome to. Im also all for a formation lap to set the field and help reduce 1st corner incidents like the one at Zander in A room.
As for points I think we need more feedback from the rest of the grid to determine that but F1 pointrs would be alright, IVe got some choclate medals form Easter laying around ala Bernie E lol.
For sure I say lets run it, Id vote for a full grand prix distance, but I can live with the GP2 format. One of my favorite things about RP are the classic F1 tracks like Estoril, Zander, Spa and then we could also throw in Rd America for the NA event and how about 1 street course the best one IMO Gula. I'm all for formula master series. Any form of qualifying will do, does not really matter to me. I think it would be interesting to throw in a new wrinkle in qualy. What I'm not too fond of is the 1 lap formation lap and then the start called either by time or by a driver sitting on the grid. We tried this in several seasons of 2 different games and people almost always jump the start. I myself have jump a start or two just by being over excited. Many times at these called or timed starts i have lost several positions by the time we reach the first corner and sooner. I just thinks it doesnt set the race well, some will have better jumps and some wont and pay a penalty. Even if we look at replay and mete out penalties I think it will still come down to a judgment call of when the exact moment of the race began. I dont want this to sound like sour grapes, I would just prefer it differently. I will still race no matter the format. Coupe, no offense but you haven't raced in a league series with us for about 3 seasons now ( 2 Leon Cupra's and Race Pro GT club) things have changed, the people have changed. Sure we have the core regulars but many others have improved this league. Most of the complaints we used to hear are gone now, along with some of the loudest complainers. Most of their gripes came about due to crazy draconian rule changes mid stream ( like who ever heard of no manual shift or tuning) its racing thats how its supposed to be. If you dont tune your car then your chances of winning are severely limited. So I'm up for anything in Race Pro. more to come?......

Just a suggestion, but maybe we could work out the start of these races by having everyone hold their positions through turn 1 and then its game on. I dont know, just a thought, I'm open to any ideas. I will race no matter what set of rules we have.

If you're worried about the start and it either being jumped intentionally or on accident how about this: A rolling start?...We could gather the grid about three quarters of the way thru the "formation lap" and the LEADER accelerates at the S/F line?... Would you guys mind running a beta test with me after the race on Sunday?...I'll do it anytime before then if other want to join...We can see how things will work out, dry run quali and se how much fun that is...I bet it'll be a BALL to watch everyone qualify...We should practice radio silence while others are on their flyer out of consideration though... Thanks for all the interest guys!... We are evolving at lightspeed...Brainstorming is F-U-N...

Of course there would be NO passing BEFORE the line just like in REAL racing if we do a rolling start...PLUS if the grid is inverted from quali then it should be REALLY fun!...
Turn one, lap one will ALWAYS be unsettling...Hey, we'll even get a bit of time to generate heat and get things up to temp before the start...Good eye Brandit...
The only problem with the street courses 7 is they're to narrow...No really good racing takes place...However, that COULD very EASILY change with an inverted grid!...Something to think about right there...

None taken brandit but just because i have'nt been around as much dose'nt mean i don't know whats going on.I still talk to quite afew people who run and they tell me whats up and so on and from all my time running stuff untill recently i was just saying what i've come across.
As far as no manual shifts if i remember right at that time that was a one race deal and that was'nt my call as i'd of run manual because i run that when i'm not online.Half the guys were upset over them being like .500 faster each lap at the oval i think it was? So me and night at the time put it too a vote as we thought it was the best thing to do to try to make it more even and the finish was 5 wide for the win so i always thought that was a good job even with a stupid rule
As far as my no tuneing rules for when i ran certin leagues,i always found it made the racing alot better and helped out the guys who don't know how to tune or don't have the time too and at the time i did the best with what we had as the games have changed alot with replys, options etc now

I'm up for it as well. Could the time of the races be a little later in the night? The GT league is at 6pm my time (damn daylight savings time) which is right around dinner and even though it's worked out so far who knows. Something either before the average dinner time or after would be preferable.

Suppose we can work on the start time...I'm in CST so...I guess we FIRST need to figure out the format...ie: Sprint and endurance or just a GP style race?...This is why we should dry run...Things came up lastnight so I never made it over to RP...I'll be on tonight tuning for Anderstorp...
Just send me a message and we'll switch over to Masters to get timing and work on the quali format...

Hey if we could delay the start by 2 or 3 hours Id be able to make every race and I could pull in 3-4 more guys for the grid.
Im Eastern but I work at night so I play in the very early morning hours for me it works perfect, I didnt want to bring it up b/c you guys already had time established.
If it was open to discussion Id vote for a later time as well, any chance of this happening?

This is the OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
Since the DUMPING of my career from SIMBIN's wonderful bug I am WITHDRAWING my entry in the GTC league...I'll be focusing all my energy on getting the format for the Masters season worked out..I'l be doing testing (for those who want to join) on the quali format as well as the race starts (standing or rolling)...I will compile a track schedule (no street courses sorry my African warrior friend)
Good news about the Masters is they're DLC so we don't have to worry about the dumping career issue...I would like to do run the Masters season in duality with the remainder of the GTC season...
LMK what nights are good for EVERYONE who gonna join the Masters season...
