Race Driver One
Race Driver One will shift the emphasis from 'ultimate racing simulation to ultimate racing stimulation' and will feature a wide selection of events - ranging from street racing through to official circuit-based championships – in various locations around the world as players buckle up to become the numero uno race driver in a freshly tweaked career mode.
Powered by Codemasters Studios' own Neon engine (which the developer is also using for Colin McRae: Dirt), Race Driver One promises to be the best looking game in the series to date, with super spuffed visuals, as well as souped-up physics and car damage.
Codemasters recently showed us an early teaser trailer of Race Driver One and while it didn't reveal any game play, it did give us a glimpse of some of the cars that will feature. Amongst the display models we spotted were a rather fast looking Ferrari F430 GT, a sassy Aston Martin DB, a hefty Plymouth Barracuda muscle car and a racy Toyota GT 300 Supra. Definitely stimulating for avid automophiles.
.........Last but not least, 2008 will see the arrival of Race Driver One, which is "the third generation" of the motorsport series that started with the TOCA Touring Cars series and more recently became the TOCA Race Driver series. Race Driver One will also use the Neon middleware engine--which was also announced to be powering Colin McRae-inspired rally game DiRT--and will feature locations in Europe, the US, and Japan. Both official circuit-based championships and urban street competitions will be playable. Again, the game will be coming in 2008 to the PC and "leading console formats."
Codemasters Studios executive producer Gavin Raeburn commented, "A completely fresh career structure will engage players in an unprecedented range of racing styles as they build a team capable of becoming number one. The Neon engine will be expanded to deliver a new level of visual detail, physics and an astonishing car damage system."
Codemasters' Race Driver series, which has always focused on the British Touring Car Championships, is expanding to simulate more racing events around the world.
Due for release in 2008 for "leading console platforms" and PC, Race Driver One features "the most extensive range of events in the series", with races taking place in Europe, the US and Japan. The game will combine "official circuit-based championships with road races and urban street competitions."
Codemasters said Race Driver One is "set to do for circuit racing what dirt has done for offroad racing" at Code07, a press event held earlier this week.

"Combining our racing heritage with the Neon engine, Race Driver One will create a world that goes far beyond the traditional boundaries of motorsport gaming, taking players from the most prestigious race circuits to road and street events around the globe", said executive producer, Gavin Raeburn.

No in-game footage was shown, but a short video showed some of the cars that will be in the new game, including exotic super cars like Ferrari and slick Japanese racers like the Toyota Supra. More is promised in coming weeks.
