We learned about this issue shortly after shipping v1. This issue has been fixed in v2. We're still testing around the fix and looking for new exploits. Simulating a shift is far more complicated than it seems. If you’re interested, here’s a little background on the bug.
In Forza, each car has a tuned four step process for shifting - each step with its own corresponding timing per car. Step 1) slip/open the clutch, 2) change the gear, 3) rev-match, and 4) lock the clutch. In v1, the clutch and the handbrake were tied together. Meaning as soon as the handbrake was engaged, the virtual clutch would slip/open automatically. Using the handbrake (with the pressure set to 0.0), it was possible to bypass a step of the tuned timing values as well as the rev-matching code that cut throttle in the shifting system. By not cutting throttle, certain cars were able to maintain boost and better optimize their powerband (plus the shift was slightly faster).
