well i raced them back when i was like 12, and we had 100 cc yahama engines on em, chassis is the most expensive, depends on what your looking to do. for a play around yard kart or whatever your looking around 800-1800 + for a road racing kart we had like 2500 in one. granted there is no shocks, basically just a chassis an engine and tires. racing suit and helmet will run some bucks.
but yeah you can build stuff cheaper, everything in life is cheaper if you do it yourself. houses, cars, taxes, business, hobbies, etc....

if they all the same karts like most indoor tracks are, then the person that is lightest will win. as is true with kart racing in general.

used to race rc cars, now i got slot cars. i tell you what, for the amount of money they are its the cheapest fun you can have. i raced HO scale saturday, cars cost like 70 bucks, for a competitive one. then later that night i went and drag raced 1/24 scale slot cars. oh my god, these things are awesome, where have i been all these years. i couldve raced those, saved thousands of dollars, and have had more fun. with slot cars, you dont worry about people taking you out, or your car glitching like what happens with rc cars. no batteries no maintenance, just slap it on the track and go. last saturday i had no cars, now i have 5. and they only cost 100 bucks, for a fast car. had 2 built fresh on saturday i told the dude to fabricate them, he has 1 done and now im painting the body for it. they use model kits for the bodies. so you can slap a model body on it and race it. the other 1 i will have by this weekend he is still working on it to get it built. and i bought 1 that i borrowed from my friend to race with on saturday night. and i also bought 2 off of ebay. 1 is a GTX and the other is a 57 chevy belair, funny car. bad as hell.
the racing is sweet, go up to the track, they have this glue stuff that you put on the tires for traction, you do a couple burnouts and you line the car up. there is a tree, like a normal drag strip, its like the real thing. they have bracket racing, .890 class and .990 class, everything like you would for a normal day of racing.
best ive ran was a .870 @ 58mph on a 55 ft track. which they consider a 1/4 mile track. and with a .510 light. closest i had to a .500 was a .499 i was so close.
but man this stuff is a blast. like i said, 1 week ago i had never even seen a slot car race. now i own 5 cars.

lol the place near me that does it is listed in the phone book and on a major road . might go check it out tomorrow night if i can get my alternator replaced. and as for RC stuff, ithink i'm done with on road, might do off-road/stadium courses from now on cause i 'm pretty decent with my buggy.

well, with offroad there is less work for setup, if you need help with a setup let me know.
believe me i know some fast setups ive won many races, not just club races either, just depends on driving style and car you have.
off road is in my opinion easier to drive a car, and you can have more forgiveness for screw ups, that meaning if you wreck you wont go a lap down. at least thats the way i feel about it.
alternator on your car, what car and what year.
also, like coupe said, most slot car tracks are in peoples basements, and they are hidden. you have to know someone or be around it to know where they are located. like he said, just ask around, check the internet, do some research, its worth your time.
i didnt even know slot car drag racing existed a week ago.
